I recently saw a magazine spread featuring one of our client’s homes.  It is always a thrill when we see some of great contemporary furniture and lighting from Thingz in a magazine!  It is especially thrilling when the house is as beautiful as this one.  We will likely feature a spread of this home once we secure some photos from the owner but until then I thought that instead we would discuss the projects brilliant architect Bing Hu.

It’s that time again!  Each spring and fall we make room for the newest styles and latest colors by holding our most popular event of the year — the Thingz Semi-Annual Floor Model Sale!

It’s very rare for a home, even the most minimalist ones, not to have at least one rug on the floor. Rugs are present in most cultures and there is such a variety to choose from that they literally come in all shapes, sizes, materials and designs. They can be extremely functional or highly decorative. Certainly, they can be both simultaneously. Many rugs function to be protective.

Known as the greatest American architect of all time, Frank Lloyd Wright designed more than one thousand projects, more than 500 of which were completed. More than an architect, Frank Lloyd Wright was a writer, inventor, interior designer, and educator. He wrote 20 books and innumerable articles. He was also a popular lecturer in the US and in Europe. His life was interspersed with controversies and tragedies, but he lived to the ripe old age of 92 well-decorated, awarded and celebrated.

Many homeowners try to play it safe by using neutral colors for their rooms. After all, moods change, preferences change, and color trends change. This is why many homes stick to variations of white when it comes to their walls. A monotonously neutral room can get boring though.

For a properly impressive dining room, a chandelier hanging over the dining table is called for. This is especially beneficial if you do a lot of entertaining. It’s not only about the sense of drama a chandelier creates in a room, it is also about having a very strong focal point. Choose unique ones and you’ll even end up with a conversation piece as well. Chandeliers, in general, provide solid illumination. It is a powerful light source, but at the same time, its glow adds a cozy and intimate warmth to the room.

We just got the new South Beach Sectional into our Scottsdale store this week and it is fabulous.  As you may know, we search for contemporary sofas and modern sectional that are unique and different.  Our criteria for new furniture is simple — it must be stylish and look great but we prefer seating that is also comfy and cozy!  Well, I am happy to report that the South Beach is all of this and more!

From candles to gas jets, from kerosene lamps to artificial lights, portable light sources have been in use for centuries. The purpose of light, first and foremost, is utilitarian. This is why there should be a light source in every room of your house.

With great anticipation, we at Thingz await the new lighting introduction from the Dallas Lighting Market each year.  It had been a while since we have seen any great new introduction.  Thus we were totally unprepared to see all of the wonderful new lighting product introductions this year.  There are too many great new lighting options to go into in any detail in this short column. But we did want to highlight five new pendants from Tech Lighting.
