In the case of The Frank Lloyd Wright Spire, the Arizona State Capitol’s loss is clearly Scottsdale’s gain. Designed in 1954, the Spire was way ahead of its time, which is actually very characteristic of many of Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs. Rejected for being too radical in the ’50s, the awe-inspiring structure finally materialized in 2004 at his old office at the Taliesin West Promenade. More than half a century later, the Spire remains very much avant-garde, a testament to Wright’s imagination and artistry. And as it’s location is just mile or two from our Scottsdale showroom, the Thingz Scottsdale team gets the opportunity to see it often!

For a properly impressive dining room, a chandelier hanging over the dining table is called for. This is especially beneficial if you do a lot of entertaining. It’s not only about the sense of drama a chandelier creates in a room, it is also about having a very strong focal point. Choose unique ones and you’ll even end up with a conversation piece as well. Chandeliers, in general, provide solid illumination. It is a powerful light source, but at the same time, its glow adds a cozy and intimate warmth to the room.

Lighting has always been integral to the design of a room. Without proper lighting, all your decorating plans will simply come to naught. Without being told, everybody knows that a room’s lighting should be both functional and decorative. It has to be both practically and aesthetically pleasing. People have the misconception that lighting in modern homes is a plain affair with no drama or elaborate designs. This is not true. Contemporary homes also take pride in their light styling. You will not find yourself limited design-wise when it comes to choosing light fixtures for your modern home. The following are merely ten among many wonderful light fixtures that will give your room not only optimum illumination, but superior style as well.

1. Lumina Fan. When it comes to ceiling fans, the Lumina fan is a cut above all the others. Designed by Ron Rezek, one of America’s most innovative designers, the Lumina fan is a cross between a chandelier and a ceiling fan. Its two sculptural glass shapes produce a more encompassing light than your usual ceiling fan light fixtures. This fan comes in varying blade diameter, light and control options. There is also provision for use on a sloped ceiling. The fan itself makes a fascinating focal point and the light it produces is a lovely glow that serves its purpose very well.
2. Cascade Screen Table Lamp. For a contemporary home with dwellers who are open to non-traditional designs, something like the Cascade Screen table lamp is more suitable than the usual table lamp shade. The soft glow from the semi-translucent lamp gives ample illumination without the harsh glare expected of shade-free lamps. Besides the cascading glass feature, the lamp’s main materials are a sophisticated combination of dark brown wood and brushed nickel. Put it in any room and it will surely provide attraction.
